Cate is a gifted teacher of singing and a remarkably versatile musician. She magically identifies subtle ways my body and inner attitudes affect my communication as a professional singing actress. She then gently, but systematically, works to strengthen and relieve those blocks. I value her opinions highly. My only criticism is that there is not enough of her to go around!

Welcome! I am in my 29th year as a Teacher of Singing, currently working with professional singers in classical and popular music. I also have many years’ experience working with committed amateurs, choral singers, college voice majors, high school and middle school singers, and have proven skill in building each INDIVUDAL VOICE through the use of Voice Science, Somatics, Movement, and my highly-honed Intuition and continual learning from other vocal experts and colleagues. I am a professional singer, collaborative musician, composer and arts’ education innovator.

While working privately with Cate, students have earned Broadway roles, National musical theater and Kennedy Center tours, signed contracts with Cirque de Soleil and Disney Tokyo, Helen Hayes award nominations and Cinderella awards, sung in equity productions at Signature Theater, Arena Stage, Studio Theater, The Washington National Opera and WNO Children’s Chorus, Ford’s Theater, Olney Theater, Theater Alliance, Imagination Stage, night clubs and jazz venues, all DC area auditioned choral groups and are paid singers in houses of worship.

Cate’s professional singing career has been focused on singing contemporary chamber music, chamber opera, recital, oratorio and as soloist with orchestras. She has premiered numerous American art songs in eight languages and has worked with such American composers as the late John Cage, Clare Shore, Lori Laitman and Lynne Steele.
